Hello friends! I am so excited to share with you the books I read this year. I had a lot of time to read thanks to my maternity leave. I dove into some good ones this year, so buckle up and let me know if you also had the chance to read these!
1.) How Are You, Really by Jenna Kutcher
Jenna Kutcher is a boss. I’m sure most of you already follow her. She used to work in Corporate America (in the Midwest nonetheless, and I actually have an old friend who knew her from college, so there’s that), and then one day she decided she was meant for more. She quit her job and built a literal empire. I loved this book. It is special because her words challenge you to get my clear on what you want in your life, by being mindful of how your body and mind feels. She encourages you in a loving way to challenge your limiting self-beliefs and her words make you feel like you are capable of anything.
2.) You Need a Budget by Jesse Mecham
This is by far my favorite finance book. I love Jesse because he is the opposite of Dave Ramsey. There is no shaming or telling you what you should or should not spend your money on. Rather, he encourages you to direct your dollars towards what you value. In this simplistic, easy read, you will feel inspired to create positive change in your life without feeling overwhelmed. 10/10.
3.) You Are a F***ing Awesome Mom by Leslie Anne Bruce
I read this while I was going through my postpartum journey and it was exactly what I needed to get out of my ick headspace. Leslie encourages brand new moms to sift through the BS and to do motherhood your own way, without comparing yourself to others. It’s a newly postpartum mom’s bible, essentially – especially for those moms who are new to the gig. Loved it!! Love Leslie!!
4.) Beyond the Wand: The Magic and Mayhem of Growing Up a Wizard by Tom Felton
Any other Harry Potter fanatics out there? I couldn’t WAIT to get my hands on this book, and Tom did NOT disappoint!! I loved reading about the BTS filming secrets behind the iconic Harry Potter series. And let me tell ya, Tom Felton DELIVERED!!! You will laugh, cry, and possibly snark a bit along the way. He really isn’t that different from his character, and I love that about him!! If you are a Potterhead, it’s a MUST read!! Although if you truly are a fan, I bet you have already gotten your hands on this one.. 😉
5.) Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing by Matthew Perry
Okay, first of all, a moment of silence please. I seriously cannot believe that Matthew Perry died this year. Legit the worst part of the year, hands down!! I read his book this summer prior to his death and was unbelievably shocked to hear of his passing. However, if you read his book, you will probably not be surprised that it happened, unfortunately. Addiction is a disease, and his words beautifully shared his courageous fight against it. May he rest in peace.
6.) The Woman in Me by Britney Spears
And of course, the book everyone is talking about! I absolutely couldn’t wait to get my hands on Britney’s book. If you read it, I would love to know your thoughts on what you think about the whole conservatorship drama. Prior to reading her book, I have struggled myself to figure her out. If she is telling the truth in this book (which I am sure she is!), I completely understand her erratic behavior now. The poor girl was sold as a child by her own family before she even had the ability to make her own decisions – or have her prefrontal cortex fully developed, for that manner.
That’s all for now. Did you like this post? I am sure I will be sharing more of my favorite reads as I progress throughout the year.
…..also, did I really only read 6 books this year? LOL.
Take care, loves. xoxo, chelsea
